4 Ways to Boost Memory and Concentration. Part 2.
We have all felt that strange sensation of losing our focus from time to time. Sometimes, it may be very difficult to get back up on track. So what happens if you discover a way to improve your focus and memory efficiently?
If you haven’t read the previous blog, here is the link to it — https://rahul-k04.medium.com/a-blog-about-how-to-retain-information-with-better-practices-part-1-fb4dcbb88b8a
Back to the subject.
The rest of the 3 techniques for better memory of information is here —
2. The Importance of summary -
Summary, defined in my terms, is like a short version of the entire information you read or listened to. For you, the summary should be in your own terms so that you can understand it more easily.
Your brain will be more comfortable to retain small pieces of information than long pages of blah blah. Always remember that your summary should be short and quickly understandable to you so you don’t waste your energy figuring out what you wrote.
The main point here is that summarising something by yourself will help you more in retaining the information as you did it on your own. Try to write the summary on a sheet of paper, without looking at the article or story. This will cause muscle to improve drastically.
(If you are reading it this far, then I am proud of you as are willing to change yourself.)
3. Continuous Follow up -
Now, take a moment by closing your eyes and try to remember everything you just read till now.
How much of it do you remember? (comment it down if you really want to tell me)
The point here is that after reading a brief part or a chapter, close your eyes and try to dictate the information that you just read, and then check for some points that you may have missed. By doing this, you are forming/ structuring your neurons in the brain to remember the information for a long time.
To enhance this, continuously ask yourself questions (like why, how, etc.) and answer them by yourself. This will structure your brain to remember the information in a fine-tuned way.
For example,
“The immediate cause of the first world war was the assasination of ‘Archduke Ferdinand’ by a secret society known as ‘Black-hand society’.”
Now ask yourself why did they assassinate him?
(Search it if you want cause I don’t exactly remember the answer)
4. Time to Revision -
Just think of it, you learned about numbers at the age of 3 or 4, But you still remember it so well that even if someone wakes you up from sleep and asks it to you, you will dictate it with no worries (I would be pretty annoyed if someone woke up me for such a silly thing). My point is that the reason you remember it so well is because you use them in your everyday life! Now the essential need for revision is that after the digital revolution, so many activities happen in our day that our brain stores more of the irrelevant information which many times we don’t need (like instagram memes).
The reason why you remember most of the memes is due to the fact that you could relate the situation of the content with either yourself or another person. Now, continuous revision is the most important key for better memory of content. The importance of summary highlights here as you won’t be able to read again and again the long pages of work. So revision of information is basically the revision of your summarised content. It will be far more efficient and less time taking to revise through your own summary. So continuous revision will not only rewire the neurons of your brain but also through time it soon will be a part of your subconscious. So this means that if you continuously revise through content which is important to you, it will soon become a part of you.
